山姆·王于1939年出生于北京,后在香港长大。1966年山姆·王取得爱荷华大学(the University of Iowa)摄影艺术硕士学位,随后进入南卡罗来纳州的克莱姆森大学(Clemson University)担任摄影系教授,开展一个长达40年数字影像艺术(Digital Production Arts)的研究生课程,Sam于2006年退休后担任该校杰出校友。 2010年,山姆·王所著的《SAM WANG - Four Decades of Photographic Explorations》由中国江苏美术出版社发行。2012年,他获得了伊丽莎白-弗纳/南卡罗来纳州长奖,以此奖彰他对南卡罗来纳州艺术的贡献。 在中国,山姆·王参与了一些关于摄影视觉创意和手工印相工艺的书籍写作,同时也是美国许多摄影工艺书籍的作者。他曾在美国以及海外展出过诸多作品。其作品被纽约大都会博物馆、亚特兰大高等艺术博物馆、中国丽水摄影博物馆、亚利桑那州创意摄影中心等机构收藏。


Sam Wang was born in Beijing (then Peking),  in 1939 and grew up in Hong Kong. He attended college in the US and received the terminal degree of MFA in photography from the University of Iowa in 1966. After teaching photography as an art form for 40 years at Clemson University in South Carolina where he also co-initiated a graduate program in Digital Production Arts, Sam retired as Alumni Distinguished Professor of Art in 2006. His book, SAM WANG - Four Decades of Photographic Explorations, was published by the Jiangsu Arts Publishing in China in 2010. In 2012, he received the Elizabeth Verner /South Carolina Governor's award for his contributions to the arts in South Carolina. Sam was the co-author of several books on photography published in China on creative photographic visions and on handcrafted photographic processes, and was a contributor for numerous books on photographic processes in the US. He has exhibited widely across the US and overseas. His work is in the collection of museums such as the NY Metropolitan Museum, the High Museum in Atlanta, the Lishui Museum of Photography in China, and Center for Creative Photography in Arizona, among many others.
